Food Sensitivity and Diagnostic Testing

An allergy is when the body's immune system reacts to proteins in food or other substances. That said, it is harder to measure whether someone has a food intolerance. This is due to the fact that many people say they have food intolerances, however, they do not have them formally tested and diagnosed. Diagnosing food allergies can be as complicated as the medical condition itself.

The doctor will typically order a blood test or blood spot food allergy test, both of which indicate whether food-specific IgE antibodies are present in your body and results showing food sensitivities to over 180 different foods, fillers and additives.
